Yellow Bill and Pelican Feeding Frenzy

While on Safari with Authentic Tanzania in the Selous Game Reserve, we came across an extraordinary congregation of birds that were feeding on fish that had been trapped when the river suddenly dropped in level.Yellow Bill storks made up the largest number of birds we saw at the site, but there were also Pelican, Maribou and Great White Egrets. The pelicans would feed in flocks themselves but occasionally one bird would break away and work with the Yellow Bills to fence in the frantic fish. Below are some pictures of the event.

Here is an example of a pelican working with the Yellow bill to catch fish. The Pelican would stay just in front of the mob of yellow bill, picking up fish that attempted to flee and scare others back towards the storks.
