So many lions at Mdonya

This is my favourite photo of Mdonya Old River camp in Ruaha - this is at the end of the green season and the grass is a magnet for game.

However, life is not always so peaceful at Mdonya. There is a large pride of lions in the area who have become experts at bringing down giraffe and even elephants.

This is in the really dry time - there are fewer buffalo about because they rely on reaching water daily and in the dry season that's not available everywhere in Ruaha.

So the lions change their menu to suit what is available. Even giraffe....
